We will be encouraging our players to develop both their aerobic conditioning and their anaerobic conditioning. (For more information on this see the strength and conditioning guide in the resource library).
In the mid week training sessions we will really focus in on anaerobic training. To do this we will work on very short time intervals of fitness work with good amounts of recovery. The intention is that players work incredibly hard during work intervals and then improve their ability to recover quickly between reps.
This mirrors the improvements we need to become more effective rugby players.
The men's teams will be monitoring players ability to recover and improvements in fitness using the WAT test. There is an image of the pitch layout for this below.
A player starts a rep every 40 seconds. The time it takes to complete a rep (Typically 10-15 seconds) is recorded. The sum total of 10 reps is the players score. Plus the % drop off between reps 1 and 10.
